Help & advice
I know i need help, but where do i start ?
You can access a free consultation to discuss your issues & difficulties & Julie will answer any questions you may have at that time. There is no obligation to enter therapy; this is purely to help you decide whether CBT or EMDR are the right things for you to do to help you to move forward.
What happens in the assessment ?
The assessment session will allow us to develop a shared understanding of the issues affecting you & your life. This usually focuses on identifying how your thoughts, ideas, feelings, attitudes & behaviours affect your day-to-day life. Together we can then decide on a therapy plan, with goals to work towards; also the number of sessions we expect you will require to fully address your issues.
Whats therapy like ?
Each session lasts approximately 60 minutes. Typically, a session of therapy is once weekly to begin with. A course of CBT or EMDR can be longer or shorter depending on the nature & complexity of the condition. Some difficulties can be treated over 6- 10 sessions, other more in-depth issues may take longer.
You will be encouraged to take an active part in therapy & will usually be given 'homework' between sessions. If you have social anxiety, for example, you may be asked to keep a diary of your thoughts & activities which occur when you become anxious before, or during a relevant event or episode.
